Town Revision

Even though it seemed like the Virtual Romans project fell into a state of lethargy the truth behind the curtain is that most of the counterparts that are on this multidisciplinary project are still at large bringing new developments onto the Virtual Romans table…

The Roman Town has gone over a final revision with expert Archaeologist from Leicester University and the final virtual version of the Roman Town will meet the public eye on the first trimester of 2012.

This final version will see the most important buildings from 210 AD Ratae Corieltauvorum come to virtual live the Macellum, Vine Street Villa, Mithraeum, the Forum and The Jewry Baths site that partially remains on today’s modern Leicester.

Accurate texturing, and building structures are some of the main changes that will take place over the Roman Leicester 3D model all of them, as mentioned before, closely supervised by expert Archaeologists from Leicester University with no other agenda than to make sure that this Virtual model is as close as possible to what the real Ratae Corieltauvorum would have looked like on 210 AD.

People from the IOCT, Art and Design department and The Centre for Computational Intelligence from De Montfort University are working on parallel projects that involve this virtual model, so expect exciting news in the near future…

The image above shows an aerial view map of Ratae Corieltauvorum and the buildings from which Archaeologists have found hard evidence of their existance. Please note that some where not present by 210 AD and therefore will not be present on the final Virtual model

Virtual Romans Intro

On February 2010 I´ve started working on a PhD research ¨A Methodology for Creating 3D Characters for Virtual Reconstructions: Virtual Romans 210 AD¨ my research is funded by CONACYT Mexico and It takes place on De Montfort University Leicester on the department of Art and Design and The Institute Of Creative Technologies.

My research focuses on populating a Virtual Reconstruction of Roman Leicester 210 AD by creating believable historical characters and as accurate as possible in terms of their appearance and behaviour, until January this year the first part of this research demanded me to learn as much as possible of how the 3rd. century Roman Britons lived.

The next stage is to look at how new Artificial Intelligence Agents will model my character method and how the Virtual Roman Leicester defines which characters lived in 210AD and therefore need to be brought to live.
